Macadamia Nut Oil

Macadamia nut oil is the oil from the Australian macadamia nut.

A tree nut native to the Northern NSW/Southern QLD coastal regions of Australia. Macadamia nut oil is a healthy alternative to other food oils with its high levels of monounsaturates. In fact, higher in monounsaturates than olive oil.

Oz Tukka macadamia nut oil is cold pressed, meaning it is the pure oil that comes out of the nut from pressing without the aid of heat, chemicals or other additives. Because there is no other processing involved in the production, there is no presence of trans fatty acids either. Trans fatty acids are unsaturated fat “acting” like saturated fat and it is a very unhealthy form of fat.

Because of the high levels of anti-oxidants and low levels of polyunsaturated fat, macadamia nut oil has a shelf life of 2+ years.

Macadamia oil tolerates high temperatures with a smoke point at 200° - 210° C (410°F) and a flash point at 252° C (485°F). The advantage of using oil with a high smoke point is that it is less likely to transform into trans fatty acids. Once oil heats up to and above its smoke point it starts to transform.

Another advantage of using macadamia oil is its flavour. It has the sweet nutty flavour from the macadamia nut that does not overpower flavours of the food you use it with.
